Managing and Supporting

Dependant on the type of event you are hosting, and how many participants you are expecting, will determine what security settings you should apply and how you should manage and support it.  For example:

    • For one-to-one or small meetings / seminars (up to 5 participants) the meeting host should usually be able to handle the management of the event
    • For larger meetings, seminars, events or conference talks, where there is expected to be significant interactivity, it is recommended to enlist a colleagues’ support as a co-host, to manage the chat and the Participants list.  If you plan to use Breakout Rooms then it may be worth asking more colleagues to assist.

What can go wrong?

In reality, provided you have familiarised yourself with the Zoom / Teams interface and controls, once a meeting is in progress there is very little that can go wrong.  The main problem will be with remote participants having problems with their internet connection, which there is nothing that you can do about.

NUIT Support

There are literally thousands of Newcastle University online events being delivered these days, and it would be impossible for NUIT to provide resource to support each one.  We are however happy to schedule a demonstration with you in advance of your event at a mutually convenient time, to provide you with the knowledge and experience you need to ensure your event runs smoothly.

If you would like to arrange a demonstration with a member of our team in advance of your online event please contact the IT Service Desk (it.servicedesk@ncl.ac.uk)
